DREAMS DO COME TRUE (DEC 09 ENEWS BLAST)

Dearest Mia Music Supporters!

About five years ago, I was sitting in my basement in my old house in Philly when I had this phrase bounce into my head. It was, “Who Is Sukey Rose?”.  I immediately knew it was the title of my next album AND I knew what the album would be about and what the songs would explore. Shortly thereafter, I found myself moving to Los Angeles to pursue one dream of many.

It was about 1 year ago today in 2008 that I remember sitting in my little home studio here in LA, dreaming of what it would feel like to hold my new CD in the palm of my hands. At the time, it seemed an frustratingly unattainable dream, one that I had pursued for so long. Another year was ending. Another year of failing to finish a project I had promised to myself and to God that I would see through to completion.(“Start one thing then try another…” sound familiar? ;) )

And now I’m sitting here, with my new (it will be new for a looong time!) CD sitting on the table next to me. I want to be still. I want to really be grateful and realize what this means. It means Dreams Do Come True. This one did for me, and so much of it is because of you, my fans, supporters and especially those who donated to the Sukey Rose Project.

Even if you weren’t able to pitch in, that you support and enjoy my music truly has given me strength to complete this dream of mine to make a CD called “Who Is Sukey Rose?”.  If you have the CD, I hope you have enjoyed it. If you haven’t heard it yet, whatcha waiting for? Go run over to iTunes or to my website and get a copy! It’s GOOOOD and I’d love for you to enjoy it! ;)

So I wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year.  You helped a dream come true and I hope that gives you hope that, no matter where you are in life… your own dreams are reachable too.

Now I have more dreams to pursue (“Miss Regret” playing during the opening sequence of Grey’s Anatomy, “Marionette” on One Tree Hill, co-writing with other published writers, write a song for Britney’s and Miley’s next albums, just to name a few!) and I thank you for cheering me on and being a supportive heart.

Musicians are tender creatures, and their strength comes from loving, encouraging voices such as yours.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thanks for reading and God bless!

-Mia :)

October Update

Hallo, a little update!

1)   So…. I was very grateful for it but I actually left my part-time day job in late August to focus 100% during the week on music & songwriting.  This means… that I’m poor, but happy!

2)   And now… I’m focusing on ‘song studies’ and songwriting, with some possible gigs in Oct/Nov. We’ll see. I definitely prefer creating over performing, but I will always love to sing.  Gigging is fun, but it’s also stressful, esp. with the business side of begging/booking/timing, finding a guitarist, building a following, etc. Eh, perhaps playing out is something that I’ll remember to love if I start doing it. Who knows?

3)   Song Studies! So I’m so excited for this! I decided to enroll myself in my own personal songwriting ‘class’ and listen to and study songs to help me become a better songwriter.   First up, da Beatles catalogue.   Well, after I finish consuming Vampire Weekend, their music is so cute and fun! Can’t stop listening to “Bryn” on repeat.  Coldplay and The Shins had a baby and named it Vampire Weekend.

WATCH THIS. creative, pure and truly beautiful. thx to Phil H. for the link.

The film-maker in me STRONGLY desires to find one of these and tape 10 minutes of it, with no soundtrack, no audio, just documenting.  I bet it’s just a cacophony of people singing at the top of their voices along to the music they are hearing in their head.

VLOG  on “The Sukey Rose Project is complete!” I swear I tried to make it short.

2nd Day Working for Me, Myself and I

So, the second day of being self-employed (again) is going well.  Me, who usually goes to bed at 4:30am and gets up at um.. noon-ish, got up naturally without any blaring alarm clocks at 8:30am.  That people, is QUITE a miracle. Before when I was doing music I had no direction, no purpose. Now my purpose is clear. Work the album, get it out there, make connections, network and build a career as a performing musician and professional songwriter. Ok, blog over. back to work!
